In case anyone is interested, phpBB3 is out. I'm going to check how much hassle the upgrade would be; it might be that I decide instead to look for something else entirely (in which case I'm probably staying on phpBB2, because although it has lots of flaws, every time I've looked before it sucks least). _________________ Triage: the healer's great art of letting the DPS die. |

Well, in some ways phpBB3 is nice: some of the stuff I'd like (and have modded into phpBB2 boards before now) is there as standard. There's a new plug-in architecture for adding features to the control panel, but nothing for modifications in general. Sure, a new format for writing them up so that they can be distributed more easily, but they haven't changed, fundamentally.
How is it that the world's most popular open source forum package still requires you to hack the codebase to made modifications?!
I doubt I'll bother changing to it. I might look for something else, or roll something of my own, but even then it'll probably wait until support for version 2 ends. _________________ Triage: the healer's great art of letting the DPS die. |
